GSA being Gay-Straight Alliance.
This is part rant too- just a warning.
Viewer Discretion is advised *shot*

Okay, I've been working since last year to try and get a GSA running at my school, which is a hella lot harder than it seemed to be to start with.
Originally, it seemed fairly simple.
Petition + Advertisement + Meetings=GSA

Yeah not so simple. Lots of "Oh we have to check this" and "PAPERWORK!! Not that we're telling you what this ';paperwork' is."
I tried asking on QueerAttitude already, but there wasn't much help there, as people either hadn't really gotten the GSAs running, or they were in a more liberal area. That was last I checked- said info is subject to updates of course.
I was working with one girl with this last year, then she moved, and now I have a few other friends + an advisor I'm working with to try to get this going, which I was hoping to have up by the second quarter of this year, but here we are in the second quarter, and getting no where.
Last I was able to confirm any EXISTENCE of the club was "We have a GSA, but we're not allowed to advertise, or hold meetings."
So... it's like air. It's THERE but you can't SEE it.
It irks me.
So I'm asking if anyone here has advice for me about getting this running. I'm tempted to put up posters against rules, and then ask people to send an e-mail to the club's e-mail(yes I made one) and then print off a list of everyone who said they would be willing to join, and then face the wrath of the office.
Any ideas I could discuss with the advisor, and any ideas for what we could do at meetings would help too. So far, the first meeting is an icebreakerish thing/intro to the club.
And I can't get a space on the announcements I don't think. Because that's advertisement. Which I'm not allowed to do. WHY is my school in a close minded area? It's not entirely close minded/homophobic, but it's enough to cause problems with making progress.
I have no idea how I'm supposed to do this. Not to mention it's impossible to get an appointment to talk to the principal about this. Which, y'know, would help a LOT as to "what I can and can't do."
Sorry for length- advice is much wanted and appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is it just me or should it not be this hard to get something running about giving people a place to go and talk and be educated about stuff?
I don't think I'm doing the Day of Silence this year... too hard. Ironic win, but hard XD

Well, in my older school it was like bane to like the same sex but we had a huge GSA surprisingly enough.

You have to find a teacher who is willing to speak for you, unless you've found one already.
Then, in my opinion, you need to take it to the principle of the school. Or even the Superintendent of your school department, I talk with my school department's Superintendent all the time due to me doing the site for the schools.
But you need to find the most highest powered person you can get to and talk with them. Make sure you have the teacher's help if you can, it's not easy to convince them.

But should they not allow you to hold a GSA, don't say anything. And then hold one in the school yards, maybe outside the school's front or in the Library if the Librarians say it's fine.
You don't need to officially be a club to have meetings.

That or you can do an inactive protest or even an active protest. Whatever one.
Just with the inactive, if you don't sign "Made and supported by 'yourname'" you can get everyone you put up on that poster in so much trouble.

Ugh. That sounds like a nightmare.
My school doesn't have a GSA, but my school is an extremely homophobic middle school that doesn't have enough money for desks.
I know a lot of my friends would support it, but I don't know of anyone else.
I'm the only one at my school who is known to be bi or whatever.

Go to glsen.org. Under the 'What we do' tab there's a link to information about starting and registering a GSA at your school. I don't think I can be of more help, since my school already had one, but GLSEN should be able to help you.

Maybe I'm crazy but if this is a free country, why aren't we permitted to love who we want to love?

I would LOVE to take it to the Superintendent, but I don't even know how to contact him. The last one we had, was always around, and easy to talk to.
I don't even know our current superintendent's name, though I'll look into that tomorrow.
And my principal is impossible to get an appointment with. Tried and failed XD
My advisor and the librarian would be willing to talk with me, along with the art teacher, if I can ever get a chance to talk to someone XD

I might try that- go with something underground but no idea where I would put that. I don't think any of the faculty are willing to risk getting in trouble for holding something like that(though there's a prayer group...)

I might try that too- and I shall remember to do that. I'd rather not get anyone in trouble ._.

Thanks for the advice 8D
